Art: Use the first website to help you find a painting (or another piece of art) to analyze. Scroll down to "Development in the Arts." You don't have to read the whole thing, just choose an artist you like and use a searcdoing it for you. h engine to look up some of their works. What you need to do is to find one that you can analyze for political, military, or cultural patterns. In other words, a picture of flowers isn't going to cut it. It has to be something that reflects the times. How does the painting you chose reflect what was going on in the artist's culture or in the world at the time? Does it reflect enlightenment ideals?

Now as an example, I picked Franscisco Goya's "The Third of May 1808." This is a painting depicting the shooting of Spanish who were resistant to the French occupation. Hundreds were round up and shot on that day, and Goya's painting commemorates this as well as demonstrating the horrors of war. This piece of art definitely isn't a pretty portrait, and it makes you think about the events as well as the people involved. This painting is realistic, but you can think about Goya's reasons for painting it. He didn't like the way that the French ruled, but he still declared himself loyal to them while they were in power. Later, though, when Ferdinand VII came to power, Goya had to prove that he was loyal to the Spanish throne. This painting was one way of doing that.
