Changes in Western culture caused by the Renaissance, Reformation and the discovery of the Americas' resulted in a more just society for some while others would suffer the consequences of the imperialistic pursuits of Western culture. Prior to the Renaissance in Europe, many people lived as peasants with the Catholic Church and monarchs possessing all the power and money within society. This meant that most people were impoverished and lived as subjects to either the church or to monarchs without many rights or much prosperity. There wasn't a just society in Europe or other Western countries, but in contrast many other areas of the world had a more just approach to their societies in comparison to Western monarchies in Europe.
