The concept of the household economy affected women in early America by providing a needs based transformation catalyst. With the advent of the household economy, with the beginning of the outsourcing of skills and services, women had a large role to fill in maintaining the household. With a transitioning trend to capitalist ways, and an unstable money system, households were constantly searching for way to earn more money, or provide more services in an effort to place themselves into a more positive social class (Gilje, 1997). With that trend women began to play a bigger role in providing services there were outsourced or sold, much like the men were also trying to accomplish. One of the major influences for women beginning to provide marketable wares is that they most often would perform these duties or tasks in a multi-tasking fashion, while also performing house duties and chores.
