Both wars were arguable begun over a fundamental difference in ideology. In the case of Vietnam, Western powers were growing increasingly concerned with the power that Vietnam was beginning to exert in the region of Southeast Asia. The Communist regime was becoming quite powerful and threatened to destabilize the countries of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia - among others.
