Nations do not think, they only feel? Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Utilize examples from nationalism, colonialism, and imperialism from the period examined in this module to frame your response.

This module first focuses on industrialization in Britain and its impact on the displaced masses who made up the working class. From there it moves on to a discussion of the problems associated with the poor by centering on the solutions posed by John Stuart Mill and Karl Marx. Nationalism and imperialism are also explored as background to the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche and the materialist direction of modern Western history and beyond. The literary and artistic manifestations of these movements is explored through Realism, Impressionism, and Postimpressionism.

Dear Student,
Hi and thank you for using Brainmass. In my review of your problem, what I deduced is this - you are being asked by your professor to react to the statement. You have been given a situation to react to - essentially, this means that you need to provide your opinion from an informed position - based on your studies. I believe then that you need to react to this in a planned way. I suggest this outline -

1. Introduction - discuss the theme - 100 words
2. On nationalism - discuss the topic from this viewpoint - first define nationalism and connect it to the theme, then take some examples from the ideas of Nietzsche, for example, or Marx - 150 words.
3. On Colonialism - same as in number 2, take some examples from the British Industrialization for example as well as the ideas of Mill - 150 words.
4. On imperialism - same as above, provide your view on the theme; connect it to culture and identity creation if you can - including the 'Westernisation' of nations - 150 words.
5. Conclusion - here, you need to put all your ideas together to 'defend' your position - 150 words.

Do not forget to list your resources if you are using any. Also, take note of the ideas in your books and class materials; you need to include them as this is expected by your professor. Good luck with your studies.

Sincerely,
AE 105878/Xenia Jones

Additionally, nation may also refer to a group of people, of different ethnicities and cultures but sharing one collective culture and identity, in one common territory with ...
