When stating that both of these individuals Malcolm X and Martin Luther King were a part of the Civil Rights Movement the student must realize that they represented different and distinct branches of a call for equality and justice for African Americans to the extent that some historians believe that Mr. X represented a different movement entirely. This movement known as the Black Power Movement contrasted in its ideology in reference to what Dr. King was espousing. While Dr. King preached non-violence through actions of sit-ins, resisting to fight back when brutalized by police, and the inclusion of Whites toward the goals of the Blacks to obtain equality and justice. Malcolm X preached and exhibited an entirely different notion of how African Americans should gain their freedom in America.
