Ode's diary is fascinating. There is always a detail person in large groups, and his journal captures his whole experience, while helping him maintain sanity, of course. I've attached a set of clips from the diary, in which he 1) shows the interruption of routine and the seclusion tactic, 2) shows disbelief in negotiations and the decline in supply of basic necessities over time, 3) shows the depression experienced by his comrades and 4) shows paranoia setting in and his attempts to maintain sanity.
