Golda Meir did an excellent job of seeking plurality without sacrificing her own beliefs. She sought information from various sources, made people feel like they were contributing to the decision making process, analyzed the information and then made the best decision possible without sacrificing Israel's interests or objectives. I think that one of the best examples of this is her actions in the days prior to the Yom Kippur War. Israeli intelligence was not conclusive in determining for sure where and when the attack would come. Golda Meir sought to gain information from various sources. When intelligence did come in confirming a Syrian massing of troops along the border she was granted the power to make a full call-up of the Israeli military. A mere six hours before the Arabs invaded she still had not called up the Israeli military. She called in her closest advisors and sought their input. In the end she chose to wait until the Arabs attacked rather than performing a preemptive strike. Her reasoning was that Israel needed foreign aid, especially American aid, in order to enjoy a continuing and prosperous future.
