One argument was that true democracy cannot be limited just to rich white males. Giving white women the right to vote would make America an even more democratic nation. It would be more truly representative.

The WCTU (Women's Christian Temperance Union) argued that prohibiting the manufacture, transportation and selling alcohol would benefit families. Not only would fathers be less inclined to beat their wives and children but more of the families income could be spent on food and other essentials if it would be more difficult for men to purchase alcohol.

Hull House in Chicago sought to teach skills to mothers, keep fathers away from alcohol and teach children about health, morals and virtuous behavior. Women also argued that child labor laws were unjust, labor laws for women were severe and campaigned for a minimum wage.
