    Mental Health

Mental health describes not only an avoidance of a mental illness but also a level of psychological well-being and balance. Mental health is about finding a balance between work, relationships, and life activities while limiting stress. It is having a healthy social, physical, spiritual, economic, and mental balance that allows a person to contribute to his or her community. Achieving such balance is a learning process that is unique to each individual and requires constant re-balancing.

The Canadian Mental Health Association offers information and suggestions on various topics to help individuals maintain their balance. Such topics are:

    • Aging
    • Anger
    • Children
    • Grief
    • Parenting
    • Resilience
    • Separation and Divorce
    • Stress
    • Unemployment
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Youth

Today, mental illness or psychiatric disorders are still very much misunderstood. They can take on many forms and be very puzzling, but it is important to know they are treatable. The Canadian Mental Health Association provides educational resources to help individuals understand and learn more about the causes, symptoms, and treatments for the following mental illnesses:

    • Anxiety Disorders
    • Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD)
    • Bipolar Disorder
    • Depression
    • Eating Disorders
    • Mood Disorders
    • Psychosis
    • Schizophrenia
    • Self-Injury
    • Suicide
    • Violence

It is important to reach out to others if balancing your mental health has become a challenge. The Internet is a great resource for help, or contact a local organization offering mental health services to ensure you can maintain your mental well-being.
