Role of Laboratory Personnel as Part of Patient Care Team:
1. Role of the Laboratory Director
A laboratory directory is responsible for overseeing operations at the laboratory and any related facilities.
In order to perform this job typically the person must be a medical doctor or hold a PhD, depending on the type of lab. In addition, lab directors have practical lab experience, typically three years prior to becoming the director. Often lab directors are hired from existing staff, since staff would have experience and familiarity with lab.
He is also responsible for staffing or overseeing the lab, conducting performance reviews, scheduling staff (unless he directs laboratory manager to do so), and making sure the staff is qualified and competent. In addition, laboratory directors oversee budgeting and research initiatives, and balance the needs of the lab with the scheduling of resources.
