Dataset Name:,ST30214,,, Title:,"Conception rates of young women, 1987 to 1997: Social Trends 30",,, Description:,"Despite the overall trend towards later childbearing, the proportion of teenage girls becoming pregnant rose in the 1980s, following falls in the 1970s. By 1990 there were 68 conceptions per 1,000 women aged 13 to 19 in England and Wales; in 1997 the rate was slightly lower at 63. In June 1999 the Social Exclusion Unit produced a report on teenage pregnancy and parenthood. One of the action points in the report was to halve the rate of conceptions among women aged under 18 by 2010. In 1997 the rate of conceptions to teenagers under 18 was 46 per 1,000 women aged 13 to 17 years. This rate has remained within the range of 42 to 48 conceptions for the last ten years. Slightly under two-thirds of conceptions to women aged under 20 in England and Wales in 1997 led to a maternity. For women of all ages about three-quarters of conceptions led to a maternity.",,, Source:,Office for National Statistics,,, Time Frame:,1987 - 1997,,, Geographic Coverage:,England and Wales,,, Universe:,Young women in England & Wales,,, Measure:,Conception rates,,, Units: See Table,,,, ====================================,,,, Table <1>,,,, ,Under 16,Under 18,under 20,All ages 1987,8.7,45.1,65.1,77.4 1988,8.8,46.3,65.8,77.1 1989,8.9,46.9,66.8,78.5 1990,9.5,47.7,68,79.2 1991,8.9,44.6,64,77.7 1992,8.4,43.6,61.9,76.3 1993,8.1,42.5,59.9,76.1 1994,8.3,42,58.9,74.7 1995,8.6,42,58.9,73.7 1996,9.5,46.4,63.3,76.1 1997,8.9,45.9,62.6,74.4 ====================================,,,, Footnotes,,,, "1 - Rates for girls under 16, under 18 and under 20 are based on the population of girls aged 13 to 15, 13 to 17 and 13 to 19 respectively.
