On the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV), Mr. Jones obtained a Full Scale IQ score of 98 (CI: 94-102), which was in the Average range of cognitive ability and at the 45th percentile compared to his same age peers. It is 95 percent likely his true score falls between 94 and 102.  Mr. Jones’s verbal abilities were significantly better developed than his processing speed skills.

Mr. Jones’s overall verbal performance generally indicated appropriately developed verbal reasoning and conceptualization abilities. On the WAIS-IV, Mr. Jones obtained a Verbal Comprehension Index score of 105 (CI: 99-110), which was at the 63rd percentile, indicating Average abilities in the verbal domain. Mr. Jones’s performance on a measure requiring him to define a series of words was in the Average range (Vocabulary, 63rd percentile). His performance on a task requiring him to give verbal responses to various questions tapping his general knowledge was in the High Average range (Information, 75th percentile). He was also administered a verbal reasoning task requiring him to identify how two words were similar. His performance was in the Average range (Similarities, 50th percentile). Overall, Mr. Jones’s performance pointed towards an age appropriately developed ability to define words and use them in more abstract conventions.

Visual Perceptual Abilities. Mr. Jones obtained a Perceptual Reasoning Index score of 96 (CI: 90-102), which was at the 39th percentile and in the Average range compared to his same age peers. His ability to complete a task requiring him to arrange ambiguous colored blocks to match a presented picture (Block Design, 16th percentile) was in the Low Average range. His performance on a task requiring him to identify the final figure in a series of progressive patterns was in the Average range (Matrix Reasoning, 63rd percentile). Another measure of visual spatial reasoning assessing his ability to identify whole-part relations and mental rotations was in the Average range (Visual Puzzles, 50th percentile). Overall, Mr. Jones’s performance indicated that his ability to complete tasks integrating visualization and spatial planning skills were appropriately developed compared to his same age peers.

Visual Processing Speed. Mr. Jones obtained a Processing Speed Index score of 92 (CI: 84-101), which was in the Average range and at the 30th percentile. He performed in the Average range on a timed task requiring visual scanning with little motor component (Symbol Search, 37th percentile). He also performed in the Average range on a timed task requiring the integration of both visual and motor skills (Coding, 25th percentile). Overall, his performance indicated that he has the ability to process basic visual symbols when fine motor movements are involved or not involved.

Verbal Memory. Mr. Jones obtained a Working Memory Index score of 97 (CI: 90-104), which was at the 42nd percentile and in the Average range compared to his same age peers. His performance on a measure of rote auditory memory for digits (Digit Span, 16th percentile) was in the Low Average range. His performance on a measure of auditory memory for mathematical word problems (Arithmetic, 75th percentile) was in the High Average range compared to his same age peers.
