Module 1 - SLP

Introduction to Critical Thinking, Personal Inventory, and Learning Styles

The purpose of the Session Long Project is to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of critical thinking skills for health care professionals.

For the Module 1 SLP, your task is to write a 1-3 page essay in which you identify a topic that is controversial in the health care profession.  Select your topic from Chapter 2, 3, or 4 from the list of current topics in the Health Care System in the US, provided here.

SLP Assignment Expectations

  1. From reading your essay it should be clear that you understand arguments on both     sides of the controversy.
  2. References should be cited properly in the text of your essay, as well as at the end.
  3. Several scholarly references should be cited for each assignment.
  4. With the exception of the Final Argumentative Essay (i.e., Module 5 SLP) your response to each Modular component of the SLP should be a maximum of 3 pages in length.

Assignment Expectations for the Final SLP

For the final SLP project you will develop a 6-8 page argumentative essay on the topic you selected from the list provided in this Module 1 SLP assignment. Your goals for this argumentative essay include: address a topic of current relevance and controversy, research the views of participants in that controversy (as well as other informed sources), outline the  positions and key arguments in favor of the controversy and against the controversy, and then take a position of your own on the issue.

The final essay should demonstrate your ability to critically analyze arguments using the concepts and principles from each module.  You will be expected to make progress on your SLP in each module.  The Final SLP essay will be an integrated collection of all modular SLP components.
