As you briefly explore the speaker in the poem (not the poet) by studying the language the speaker uses and his or her apparent moods and motivations, I feel like the speaker is a child of a war or even a Holocaust victim. I initially thought the speaker was perhaps an aborted child because of the knife references, but I think that the Holocaust victim is a better hypothesis. What do you think?
