What does the lines "this is the time. Put your hands over your eyes, Jump out of the plane" mean? Who or what do the captain and the plane symbolize?

I am definitely torn between two interpretations of this song: on the one hand, of a society in crisis, and, on the other, the individual human situation in a modern context. I think a case can be made for both and, as usual, it depends upon how you read the symbolism.
