First, when briefly addressing some potential pitfalls or barriers to the successful integration of technologies in a classroom setting—specifically in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Hypermedia software, time is a major constraint for most instructors.

One source identified some major barriers:

Goktas, Y., Yildirim, S., & Yildirim, Z. (2009). Main Barriers and Possible Enablers of ICTs Integration into Pre-service Teacher Education Programs. Journal Of Educational Technology & Society, 12(1), 193-204.

The authors suggest that "lack of in-service training, lack of appropriate software and materials, and lack of hardware are the main barriers" (193).

When offering an overview of each barrier and its contributing factors, they blamed administrators and supervisors for not implementing more training and professional development into the schedule. They also attributed money and budgeting restrictions for the lack of hardware, which made implementation quite problematic.
