1. Explanation of the three theories that you relate to most. Include the associated theorists.

First, I advocate Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory. He asserted that children learn through active involvement in social and cultural experiences. A major premise of this theory is scaffolding, which offers a structure for a child to learn, by giving clues or demonstrating with hands on strategies.

One source discusses the merits of scaffolding:

Benko, S. L. (2012). Scaffolding: An Ongoing Process to Support Adolescent Writing Development. Journal Of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, 56(4), 291-300.

The author cites how "When presenting challenging tasks or assignments, teachers and researchers often consider ways they will support students, often referring to this support as "scaffolding," or temporary assistance provided to students as they complete the task. Scaffolding in the classroom is thought to work much like a scaffold for a building: It is an impermanent structure that allows the building to be constructed (or the task to be completed); when the building is complete, the scaffold is disassembled" (291).

One article elaborates:

Bayliss, S. (2013). A Meeting of the Minds. School Library Journal, 59(12), 1.

The author clearly defines Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory as it "...recognizes eight different kinds of human intellect, not just those that lead to high IQ scores. People possess varying—and equally valid—configurations of intelligence, Gardner claimed in his book Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences (Basic Books, 1983). In so doing, he posed a challenge to standardized tests and the equation of intelligence with traditional success" (1).

Finally, I am a fan of Constructivist since Urie Bronfenbrenner developed the Ecological Systems Theory. His Ecological Theory is rooted in the fact that students' environments greatly influence their development.

One source specifies:

Gabbard, C., & Krebs, R. (2012). Studying Environmental Influence on Motor Development ...
