Ch 4

Problem 1
Bank of Omaha requires the highest average minimum balance to avoid monthly service fees.
The other banks all require the lowest average minimum balance to avoid monthly service fees, which is $0.
I would select Bank of Omaha.

1) The most important criteria are the interest rate and the minimum required to open a balance because I do not have much money to open an account, and I want it to earn interest.
2) At a local bank, I could have a personal experience, and meet the people who would be handling my money.

Problem 3

When I clicked on the link, I received an error message that said the page was not found, but I will answer the questions anyway.

The best type of account for the typical banking customer is a traditional checking account. A traditional bank account would be best for me because I live near the city and there are many branches and ATMs available. Most traditional banks also offer online banking. This way, I can have the best of both worlds.

1) In the future, we will see more online banking because it is costly for banks to have a brick-and-mortar building. To save money, the banks will switch to online banking.
2) The reason online banks charge lower fees is because it costs less to operate a bank online than it does a brick-and-mortar bank. Because online banks wish to hold all transactions online, they do not have extensive ATM networks. Online banks have better interest rates because they can save money by not having a brick-and-mortar building, and pass these savings to the customer.

Problem 1

The website shows separate prices for adults and children. Assuming that all the students are adults, it would cost $22 per student. An adult IMAX Film ticket costs $13.

After paying for gas, tolls and parking, the club would have $790 left because
$1,000 - $200 - $10 = $790

The website http://www.oanda.com/converter/ requires an accounts. Since I do not have an account I used a different website to find the exchange rate. The current exchange rate is
$1 Canadian = US$0.93

I will assume that you want the dollar amounts converted to US dollars.

I will Assume that the club will be paying for admissions, and not paying for the IMAX tickets. Convert $13 Canadian into US dollars
$13 x 0.93 = $12.09

Since $13 Canadian = US$12.09, the club can afford to send 65 students on the trip because
$790/$12.09 = 65
1) I would budget $10 per student for meals and other expenses on this trip, i.e. $650 because
$10 X 65 = $650
2) Some fundraiser ideas are bake sales and car washes. We could get an additional $1,000 from these fundraisers if everyone works hard contributes.

Problem 1
I chose the HP Officejet Pro 8610 e-All-in-One. It costs $149.99
The tax is $10.50 because
7% X $149.99 = $10.50

1) Yes, the all-in-one is less expensive than purchasing separate machines for all the individual tasks. One scanner alone costs more than the all-in-one.
2) It ...

  • "Hello, thank you for your answer for my probability question. However, I think you interpreted the second and third question differently than was meant, as the assumption still stands that a person still independently ranks the n options first. The probability I am after is the probability that this independently determined ranking then is equal to one of the p fixed rankings. Similarly for the third question, where the x people choose their ranking independently, and then I want the probability that for x people this is equal to one particular ranking. I was wondering if you could help me with this. "
