The military veterans' homeless rate is on the rise after the OIF and OEF for two reasons. First is related to the state of the general economy. This includes the rising unemployment rates and the increasing foreclosures. Both these problems impact the military veterans the most because of their weak financial position. The veterans face shortage of affordable housing, livable income & access to health care.
Second are reasons relating to veteran specific issues. Veterans may find it difficult to get jobs because of physical and mental illnesses. They suffer from PTSD and TBI. Veterans may also face drug and abuse problems. The veteran unemployment rates are higher than non-veterans.
2) What can the U.S. Army can do to mitigate or reverse the trend for homeless service members?
