In thin layer chromatography what is the Rf's mean? and how are they used? and what factors affect the Rf of a compound?

Thin layer chromatography (TLC) is a technique uses to separate mixtures of substances into their components. TLC can be used to identify substances and testing the purity of compounds. (1,2) TLC have a stationary phase ( solid) and a mobile phase ( liquid). The mobile phase flows through the stationary phase and carries the components of mixture with it. (1,2) Different components travel at different rates. Silica gel is the stationary phase and the mobile phase is the liquid solvent.
