Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company was founded in 1987 with headquarters in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The company was world's first pure foundry. It was focused solely on manufacturing of semiconductors. When the company was established, the technology aspect was given much weightage due to which TSMC managed to get hold of more than 50% market share of foundry business. TSMC serves the global semiconductor market through its network of worldwide manufacturing facilities and offices. The company has two subsidiaries-WaferTech in US and TSMC in China and a joint venture- Fab SSMC in Singapore. TSMC is the world's first dedicated semiconductor foundry, providing leading process technology, library and IP options and other leading-edge foundry services, such as mask making and IC packaging and testing.
However as the industry started getting competitive, it was a time for change at TSMC. Commonly changing parameters across industries were rising costs of product development, internalization of markets, and shorter product life cycles. While competitors were offering products at reduced prices, TSMC started improving customer service without compromising on the price.
