1. I have wondered how "portable" the Six Sigma culture would be. What is the value placed upon having a Six Sigma background when changing jobs or careers? I expect it will increase in value as more organizations use it or similar quantifiable quality production methods. "Quantifiable quality." That's somewhat of an oxymoron, isn't it?

2. I would agree that a lot of people didn't see the tsunami coming. However, don't you think that after Katrina, some of these people would get a clue that natural disasters do occur and risk mitigation has to be part of the business plan? Hmmm. Maybe putting up a sign that says don't be greedy is risk mitigation. Or at least limiting the flow of inventory for sale.

3. What can a global organization do to rely on these methods to become more competitive and efficient?

In the future, this method is more likely to get used more because individuals are having to stay current with technology. This is especially true as our culture adapts to change. Another instance is having the lightbulbs become those that are "green" and are the more expensive type than what we have used all these years. With quantifying quality, I believe that a person is going to use this by means of making sure that those he or she is in charge of is going to comply to change, and if not, then using Six Sigma to ensure that employees are willing to adapt or face losing their positions ...
