As an organization implements changes in its operations to cope with changes in the environment and to attain improved effectiveness and efficiency, the management needs to make some modifications or interventions. Cherrington (1999) describes this as organizational development (OD) interventions that include interpersonal intervention, group intervention, and structural intervention.

Interpersonal interventions are designed to improve the effectiveness of individual employees and to contribute to their personal growth and development. Group intervention has something to with improving group effectiveness and cohesiveness. Structural intervention involves structural changes that include realignment, restructuring, and lateral shift, among others.
