I have to admit that when I read this, I developed a fairly straight-ahead dislike for Meyers. She approached the job arrogantly. This is the main problem.

Here are some basic issues before we get into the Hofstede list:

Not knowing the language was huge. This really is mysterious. Why take the job without language ability?
It's like she went into this looking for another 'experience' or a nice line on her resume. She went into this with the wrong mindset.

Korea is not feminist - she did not (apparently) take that into consideration.

Female and male roles are very different in Korea. She went into this from a western point of view.
This is the opposite of what she was supposed to do (help companies shift into Korean culture-mode).

She tried to implement 'change' without understanding the context.

Korea is not egalitarian - it is hierarchical. Again, she did not consider this.
This is essential (more on this below).

Her desire to 'overhaul' the culture in SK smacks of a personal sort of arrogance. The concept of her 'straight ahead' personality in SK shows a great degree of insensitivity.

She did not approach this as someone trying to act Korean, but acting American and wondering why things went wrong in Korea.
To conclude that she was discriminated against just shows how poor her preparation was.
She went into Korea as an American.

She seems to believe that all Asians are the same.
She showed great surprise that her abilities in China did ...
