This posting will be about the marketing of fast food products to americans.

First, we can start off with a general rant about the availability of fast food to the modern obese American. In 46 states, the obesity rate is 20-34%. This is a pandemic that is growing at an alarming rate. In fact, before World War 2, obesity was not even an issue. Over the past 60 years, American's weights have began to climb higher and higher. As well, more and more children are being assessed as being obese, as of 2004, 17.1% of children, ages two to nineteen, were overweight.

Having so many obese individuals is a threat to society. It puts a strain on the health care system, as there are many life threatening complications that arise from being so heavy (hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, gallbladder disease...). As well, there are unfortunate social stigmas associated with being obese, such as the person is thought to be lazy, dumb.. Many people feel very isolated and do not have many friends.

There is such negative associations with being obese, yet, out comes Arbys and Carl Juniors with horrifically fattening, calorie ridden products. The article states that some of the of these "yummy" creations can top off at 1520 calories and 111 grams of fat for ONE SANDWICH. This does not even include the large order of fries and a giant tub of coke that often accompanies these meals.

Now, if we take a step back, we can analyze how much fat and calories the average American male SHOULD consume.
A man who is 5 foot 8 inches, 160 pounds should consume 2788.5 a DAY. And then he should consume 70 grams of fat a day at most. So in this one sandwich, he consumed 54% of his calories, and 157% of his fat intake.
