This definition indicates that the process of controlling involves basic steps that include: a) measuring actual performance, b) comparing actual performance with standard, and c) taking action if necessary.

Based on the definition, the main objective of controlling is to ensure that actual performance is within standards and that corrective actions are implemented at the right time, so as to adjust strategies if needed.
