1) What is your assessment of Rob Parson's performance? Should he be promoted?
My assessment of Rob Parson's performance is that it is mediocre. He should not be promoted now. The reasons are as follows:
1. Rob Parson has been excellent in improving the revenues of Morgan Stanley.
2. He has excellent knowledge of the banking industry; however, he has not developed an understanding of the culture of Morgan Stanley.
3. He is a very good sales person but he has not been able to sell himself in Morgan Stanley.
4. He is very competent in persuading clients to buy products; however, he has been abrasive within the company.
5. He is outstanding in creating demand for the new customer but he has been abrupt within the company.
6. He has improved the position of Morgan Stanley in the market but he has not been able to develop a position for himself in Morgan Stanley.
He has been particularly weak in Leadership, managing people and managing of a diverse workforce. He does not have team player skills. He has been evaluated by his colleagues with a score of 2.8. Even though Parson has been exceptionally skillful in the financial services segment, promoting him at this point will send wrong signals throughout the company. It may also irreparably hurt the culture of the company.
2) Using the data in the case, please complete the Evaluation and Development Summary presented in Exhibit 3 of the Rob Parson (A) case.
