First be sure you understand the type of speech that is called "expository". An expository speech seeks to inform, explain, describe or simply share information. In an expository speech you will not be presenting your own opinions or interpretation of the information. You are basically giving the facts about your chosen topic.
When it comes to the principles of expository speeches, it might be best to look at the principles of speeches in general and then apply these principles to your expository speech. Important to note here is the fact that the basic same principles that apply to writing will also apply to speaking. So if you are having a difficult time finding information on the principles of speech, you might also search for the principles of writing because they will apply. So, regardless of the type of speech here are some basic principles to keep in mind.
Principles of expository speech/writing
a) Keep it about your audience. Remember (or know) that it is not about you. What you think about the topic, how you feel about it, what you would do NONE of that is important in expository communication. The important thing is giving the information to your audience and getting them to do something with it. In an expository speech you will be providing information about a particular topic. You want your audience to receive this information, understand it and possibly act on it. So present it so that they can be receptive to it. Don't talk down to them, don't talk above their heads, and don't make it about you and what you believe. Know your audience so that you can pitch the speech at a level that is appropriate for the group you are talking to, and stick to the facts.
