Cyberstalking can be defined as any means of electronic communication or email that convey threats to inflict bodily harm or physical injury to a person, his/her dependents or property for the purpose of extorting things of value from any person. It can also refer to any false statement about death, illness or indecent conduct.
Cyberstalking is oftentimes referred to as repeated threats or harassment online. When a stalker continues stalking off-line with snail mails and harassing phone calls, then it becomes dangerous and time to call the local law enforcement agency right away. Stalkers may be driven by revenge, jealousy, anger, or mental illness. The Internet's anonymity allows an individual to send multiple e-mails or messages to the victim/s or significant others. The victim's computer may also be hacked causing him or her to sign for spam in porn sites, send offensive emails or post misrepresented information about the victim.
