1. Compare and contrast Mary Kay Ash and Anita Roddick as managers and as leaders.
Both Mary Kay Ash and Anita Roddick were leaders who were able to have a vision that served to motivate and guide others. Each woman was personally highly motivated to succeed, in large part due to need. While Roddick was motivated by "both financial security and political activism" Ash was more interested in showing the power of women to succeed in general. As managers, Ash was extremely strong, helping others succeed through rewards and opening worlds that may not have been available to them in more traditional organizations. Ash wanted others to succeed, providing steps to success for her sales people, executives, even the general public in her book, Mary Kay. Ash would tell sales people that she "created this company for you" (http://www.entrepreneur.com/article/197602), thus empowering people. Roddick was focused more on the product, and created an environment of equality, in line with her own political leanings. The two women were both success, but Ash wanted to spread that success and empowerment while Roddick was more interested in the various causes she supported.

2. Explain what the achievement of both women says about women in general.

Clearly, Ash and Roddick's success shows the power of women to succeed in business. ...
