When a woman gets older, the chance of her getting breast cancer rises. (1) At the age of 35 or above, the chance for getting breast cancer is high. Beside the age factor, there are two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, that is associated with breast cancer. (1) The normal BRCA1 and BRCA2 help prevent cancer tumors. (1, 3) But if you carry one of the mutated BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene, then you are at a higher risk of getting breast cancer. (1,3) The chance of having breast cancers is associated with genetic inheritance because women whose family members have breast cancers are in high risks of getting breast cancer themselves, and should be tested. (1) The other risks of breast cancers include being overweight, taking birth control, drinking alcohol, having baby after age 35, and not having babies.

Breast cancer happens when the breast cells divide abnormally and grow continuously. Breast cancer normally begins in the milk ducts, in the lobules and begin in other breast tissues. The symptoms of breast cancers happen when there is a lump in the breast, a change in shape or size of the breast, and discharge from a nipple. (1)
