What is mitosis?
Mitosis is a process of cell division which results in the production of two daughter cells from a single parent cell. The daughter cells are identical to one another and to the original parent cell. It is the process by which the somatic cells divide and multiply.
The function of mitosis is to insure that every new cell contains the same genetic information as all other cells. Mitotic cell division is "copy division". Therefore, it produces identical daughter cells as it involves division of a single cell into daughter cells. The daughter cells are identical to each other and the to the parent cell.
