2. Horses have 64 chromosomes, while donkeys have 62. Hybrids between horses and donkeys are mules, and are sterile. If two mules mated, with each producing nondisjunction gametes, what would be the chromosome number of their offspring? Is this likely to occur?
Mules inherit 32 chromosome from female horse and 31 chromosome from male donkey. Hence, total 63 chromosomes are present in mule. Due to the presence of odd number of chromosome, normal pairing between homologous chromosome is not possible.
