Answer Discussion:
To us, I often quote cloning as a "producer's dream from a geneticist's luck". Well, unfortunately, this luck has not been lucky enough to propel the cloning technology as previously dreamed or envisioned. While cloning has a great potential in improving food production, being a vet myself, it is still not the solution politically, ethically and morally. In fact, even from the standpoint of responsible application of science and technology, cloning is far from being the real solution.

Now, to put this topic first on better perspectives, cloning animals especially farm or food animals has been technically possible in the last many years. This is especially true after the say "perfection" of that well-known method of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) being greatly popularized by Dolly the sheep in 1996. After that stint of success, this technology of cloning soared high to involve and explore other farm animals for improved food production both in term of quality and quantity (as discussed in Then and Tippe, 2010).
