This is a problem that asks for a comparison of relative efficiencies (ATP's per mole of glucose oxidized) for two different pathways. The answer can be simple and numeric. Any greater level of explanation would be awesome to see.
After this example, I will be comparing these two pair of pathway in 9 different ways: effciency is the first and most basic way I'll be comparing them.
3. Compare the relative efficiencies (in ATP's per mole of glucose oxidized) of
glucose oxidation via glycolysis + the citric acid cycle
glucose oxidation via the pentose phosphate pathway + gluconeogenesis.
Assume that NADH and NADPH are each energetically equivalent to three ATP's.
