Aeromonas is a genus of gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria which is often associated with human disease. Species such as A. hydrophila, A. caviae, and A. veronii are known to be pathogenic and are commonly found in fresh and brackish water. Like most pathogenic bacteria, they possess substances such as endotoxins, hemolysins, and enterotoxins, adherence factors, which could potentially be factors contributing to their ability to induce disease.
