Problems with Genetic Screening:
One problem would be to know in advance that a genetic test showed you had the possibility of having a genetic disorder that will shorten your life, and there is not a known cure for the disorder. The test only indicates that you have a specific sequence that is linked to this disorder or the trait; however, it does not say for sure the disease will ever manifest, or indicate the severity of it if it does. A person would live and plan a life based on thinking they will or could die from this disease. The anxiety of knowing this information would place an undue burden on the individual and their family (1).
