The grief stages model as offered by Kubler-Ross includes following five stages: denial (and shock), anger (and guilt), bargaining, sadness and acceptance.

When someone loses a loved one, grief can get expressed in many different ways. The stages of the model are not linear, but they can be experienced out of order.

Sometimes, individuals who have lost long-time positive and supporting partners, parents, and children, pet animals and house plants, can feel intensely sad when they first come to know that their loved one has passed on.
