Strategic vs. Structural Family Therapy Models

Family therapy, also known as family counseling, is a form of intimate psychotherapy designed to help families (including couples) overcome issues to nurture relationships challenged by change, trauma and a host of other issues. As a branch of therapy, it looks at the family unit as its main concern, with each members considered as an important factor. The way each of them react is considered a system of interaction and this system of interaction is seen as subject to influence of challenges and change - normally the site were dysfunction is manifested when families are subjected to a host of issues. In family counseling, even if the issue is only within an individual, it affects the entire family unit and as such, involving the entire family unit becomes far more beneficial. The counselor/therapist therefore is skilled in influencing communication between family members to bring to surface issues and to help families confront, get over, manage or bring closure to them. With the family involved, the support system to confront such issues is in place and the wisdom is that it brings strength to each member setting aside issues ...
