1. Can effective therapy happen without administering psychological testing? Explain why or why not. Under what circumstances is testing useful?
Different types of therapy have different views on the role of testing. For example, Rogerian therapy is effective without psychological testing as it is a talk therapy. The therapeutic relationship and how the therapist treats the clients allow the client to openly express her or his feelings, which moves the client towards being her or his real self and self-actualization, reaching her or his full potential. Therapeutic techniques, such as unconditional positive regards (acceptance) and genuineness, (openness and self-disclosure) are believed to give the patient freedom to feel comfortable to talk freely and to be their authentic self.
