Online TA Services
This is a detailed, step-by-step description of the four services offered by our Online Teaching.
Post-A-Problem Process:
- Any student can post a question to our system under any one of 45 distinct fields of study, entering a contact email address as well as basic information outlining the timing and price requirements for the problem. This includes the number of credits that will be paid (up to fifteen credits maximum at $3.99 CAD (approx. $3.75 USD) each) and the deadline for a response (6 hours to 5 days). Please remember BrainMass is NOT a free service. You will have to pay before you are able to view your response.
- For a student's first posting, we require the credit bid to be purchased up front. From then on, no payment is required at the time the problem is posted. Instead, the student need only check their email address or log on to our Posting Track system to monitor the progress of the Online TA network in addressing the problem.
- Once the problem is posted to the system, an automatic email is sent to all Online TAs registered to the given field of study. Each available Online TA will log into the BrainMass system to view the posting. Similar to any library system, only one Online TA may "sign out" the problem at a time, so the system works on a "first come, first served" basis. Since every Online TA is screened upon registration, all are able to provide excellent explanations for posted problems in their specific field of study. An Online TA who is unable to properly address a posting will simply not sign it out or will return it to the pool for another Online TA to respond.
- When the Online TA has created a detailed response, it is returned to the BrainMass system. An automatic email notification is then sent to the student who posted the problem and the Posting Track system is updated.
- Upon receipt of the automated notification email, the student will be able to see the responding Online TA's credentials and online track record. The receiving student must then 'pick up' the response by clicking on the provided link.
- The student can purchase and use Custom Credits to pick up the Online TA's response. Once the student has picked up and paid for the response, the Online TA is paid and the response is considered for inclusion in the Solution Library for future students to benefit from.
- At the time of pickup, the student rates the quality of the Online TA's work. This rating is attached to the response for future student users to see and is also used to create the cumulative rating for each Online TA in the BrainMass community. Poor ratings are an indication of customer dissatisfaction and they are sent immediately for review by our Operations Staff.

Submit-An-Essay Process:
- Similar to the Post-A-Problem Service, this service allows students to receive essay writing help by submitting their written work to the Online TA network in any one of 47 distinct fields of study. The student establishes a deadline for the review and the essay, lab or assignment is attached to the posting as a separate file.
- Once posted, an email is sent to all Online TAs in the posting field. As in the Post-A-Problem system, only one Online TA will "sign out" and review the student's work.
- Upon completion, the review is submitted by the Online TA and an automatic email is generated for the student. The student need only check in the Posting Track system or their email account to know when the review has been completed.
- The student can purchase and use Custom Credits to pick up the Online TA's review. The cost for this service is $3.99 CAD (approx. $3.75 USD) per double-spaced page. The Online TA responsible for the review is immediately credited.
- The reviews are rated by each student. This rating is compiled with others to reflect the Online TA's overall rating.
- Previously posted essays are NOT made available for future download by other students.

Solution Library Service:
- The Solution Library is equipped with a very robust search engine that allows any individual to browse through the many problems that have been posted to the BrainMass system. Searches can include Subjects, Topics, Online TA ID Numbers, and Keywords.
- Selected problems are compiled into "Study Guide" similar to a shopping cart found on many websites. The Study Guide may be viewed at any time and problems added or removed before checkout.
- Study Guides can be downloaded with responses using Solution Library Credits, which can be purchased using PayPal or a Credit Card. Pricing for Solution Library Credits starts at $0.96 CAD (approx. $0.90 USD) each. Once downloaded, the Online TA responsible for each solution is credited. This perpetual revenue source is extremely appealing to our Online TA network and a driving force behind the superb quality of their work.

Reference Desk:
- The Reference Desk has been designed by our Online TAs with the needs and concerns of students and parents in mind. It is comprised of four sections: University/College, Secondary School, Parents and Resources.
- The University/College section consists of notes and articles on such topics as essay writing, exam preparation, study habits, balance of academic endeavors and extracurricular activities, career planning and graduate study.
- The Secondary School section is a compilation of useful tips and tricks tried and tested by our Online TAs when they were in your shoes. Learn how to write a professional essay, whether for a term paper or for college admission. This section will also help you develop effective study habits and improve your learning skills. Take a look into your future and know how to prepare for college before you get there.
- The Parents section helps guide readers through the maze that a child’s education can prove to be in the modern world. We understand that the welfare and all-round development of kids is the most important parental concern.
- The Resources section is a compilation of links to websites and other educational resources on a wide variety of subjects and topics - be it American history or an astronomy theory.
